This is from a project in the Swiss Alps where avalanches are released artificially using blasting towers. The explosions are controlled remotely. For the safety of backcountry skiers, GEOPRAEVENT has developed a system using radar technology that detects and tracks people in a large area close to the blasting sites in all weather conditions and up to distances of more than 1000 m.

Normal cameras only work during daytime and in good weather. Thermal cameras can detect people also at night. But only radar is able to detect people during a heavy snow or rain storm.
