Our first station in the Shaksgam Valley has been up and running for two years. In 2012, a second station was added at an altitude of almost 5000 m asl. In May 2013, two members of the GEOPRAEVENT AG team and a geologist from GEOTEST AG travelled to China again to install a river gauging and meteorologic station. It also operates completely independently, the power is supplied by a solar panel and the data is transmitted via a satellite link. In order to facilitate the access to our data portal for Chinese authorities, the portal was translated to Chinese.

The journey to the Yarkant River leads through the impressive landscapes of the Xinjiang province.

This time we could take the car – unlike the fist expedition, for which 12 camels were necessary to transport material and personnel.

Mission accomplished! The newest station is up an running.
